Tooth extraction is a dental procedure in which a tooth is completely removed from its socket in the jawbone. This treatment is generally considered a last resort when the tooth cannot be saved by other means, such as dental fillings, crowns, or root canal treatment. At True Dental Studio, we work to ensure that the extraction process is as comfortable as possible for our patients.

There are various circumstances under which tooth extraction may be necessary:

  1. Severe Tooth Decay: When a tooth is so extensively decayed that it can't be restored, extraction may be the only option to prevent infection and alleviate pain.
  2. Gum Disease: Advanced periodontal disease may weaken the supporting tissues around a tooth, making extraction necessary to maintain overall oral health.
  3. Impacted Teeth: Wisdom teeth, or third molars, often become impacted (unable to grow in properly due to lack of space or improper angle) and may need to be removed to prevent pain and other complications.
  4. Overcrowding: Sometimes, teeth may need to be removed to make room for proper alignment, particularly in orthodontic cases.
  5. Broken or Cracked Tooth: If a tooth is broken or cracked in such a way that it cannot be repaired, extraction may be the most practical solution.
  6. Pre-Prosthetic Requirements: Some patients may require tooth extraction to prepare for dental prosthetics like dentures or dental implants.

Tooth extractions are also subsidized for Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) / Pioneer Generation (PG) / Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders. Consult with our friendly dentist to determine if tooth extraction is the right treatment option for your specific dental condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

At True Dental Studio, we aim to minimise any discomfort and to make dental visits as comfortable as possible for our patients. Our dentist will apply local anaesthesia to numb your cheeks and gums, helping to reduce pain as much as possible. If you have a concern, please talk to our friendly dentist and staff.

For non-surgical tooth extractions, most patients can expect to recover within a few days. Minor discomfort and swelling are common but usually subside within 24 to 48 hours. It's generally advisable to avoid strenuous activity for a couple of days and to follow your dentist's post-operative care instructions. Eating soft foods and maintaining good oral hygiene can also aid in a speedy recovery.
